Mountain Mourning is a 30 minute DVD that shows the grandeur and wonder of the southern Appalachians….and the destructive coal practices that are destroying this region dear to many as home.
Scenes of beauty are contrasted with scenes of ruin while traditional gospel and Appalachian music narrates this story of tragedy and hope.
This film alerts Christians and their churches to the ruinous coal extraction practices in the coalfields and challenges them to summons moral courage and effective advocacy that will end mountaintop removal and bring healing and justice to the land and its inhabitants.
Christians For The Mountains urges supporters to give this DVD to church leaders and church goers, to show it at churches and gatherings locally and nationwide, to get the word out…most people do not know this destruction is goin on!!!

added features and is now titled The
Mountain Mourning Collection.
Maria Gunnoe takes the viewer on a tour from her backyard into the surrounding
neighborhood in Look What They've Done. Larry
Gibson in Keeper of the Mountains provides a
personal tour of his 50 acre property on Kayford Mountain surrounded by
thousands of acres of desolate mountaintop removal. Both of these films
are are visceral and cutting in their impact upon any viewer who has compassion
and conscience. Christians For The Mountains co-founder Bob
Marshall makes a plea for viewers to take action and offers
several helpful suggestions. The film also contains some excerpts of a
project by some high school students in Bringing Down the
Mountains as illustrative of the interest and insight the
younger generation has in mountaintop removal.
An online guide for viewers and leaders is being developed. Comments and suggestions are welcome!
