CHRISTIANS FOR THE MOUNTAINS “The Earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it; the world, and all that lives upon it.” (Psalm 24:1) PRAYER Let's face it, we are not going to prevail in this battle to protect the Earth unless God steps in somehow. We can and should do all we can to keep ourselves from being totally swept up in the mindset that misuses the planet, that callously ignores the destruction of human communities for the profit of a few, that is apathetic to the irrevocable destruction of land, air, water, and species. But finally, we know we need a greater power than we can muster. Christians believe in a God that acts, that responds to the plight of this earth, that hears the cries of petitioners. Thus we pray. Since this website is in its beginnings, the interest of this particular page will take on its own life, so to speak. For now, we will begin to list resources and persons who will take on a special ministry to call us to prayer. Please send your prayer requests for now to prayer@christiansforthemountains.org One of our first prayer requests is to ask God to inspire someone or several to take on a ministry of coordinating prayer requests involving the mission of Christians For The Mountains as well as the need to also be praying for one another in our daily challenges and struggles. Importantly, we also need to express our thankfulness to God in our prayers, and to give God worship and praise.
Pray For.... Diane
Bady, a key person with OHVEC, who has
struggled for years with a puzzling and debilitating illness. Recently
doctors found that Dianne has a very curable form of lymphoma. She’s
relieved now to name the ‘demon.’ She will be receiving 18 weeks of
chemotherapy—spaced 3 weeks apart, starting soon. She’ll be able to
have the chemo in Huntington. Dianne, though pretty fatigued is very
upbeat and determined to fight. She strongly believes in the power of
prayer; any of you who are the praying type or have chains and networks
to that effect, please keep Dianne in your prayers. Dianne is a rare,
exceptional person. We love her and pray for her full and speedy recovery.
Write Diane at 95 Private Drive 1250, CR 70, Proctorville, Ohio 45669. Denise Giardina, for full recovery from a serious illness to health. Denise is an active Episcopalian, a writer of several novels including themes related to coal mining, justice, and an acclaimed work on Bonhoeffer. Denise is passionate about stopping the abuses to the land, including MTR. Denise participated in the founding meeting of Christians For The Mountains. Denise, we ask God to bring to you healing, restoration of your vigor, and return to your life's work. As an update, Denise is recovering well, and is resuming her activities. Larry Gibson, who had another assault on his property on Kayford Mountain in early August. Larry is an outspoken native-born activist opposing Mountain Top Removal mining. His 50 acres of property on the mountain, an island in the midst of a massive MTR site, has been in his family for 200 years. Larry's refusal to sell the property to mining interests, and his continued willingness to use his property to show people the destruction that is MTR, is likely the cause for this latest round of vandalism which included the destruction of Larry's power supply and shots fired at his cabin. Pray that God protect Larry, and pray that people respond to his need for the finances necessary to repair the damage to his property and to procure surveillance equipment. Finally, pray for Larry's heart-felt passion that the remaining mountains be protected from the abuse of mountain top removal mining.<<<<>>>>MORE
RESOURCES Connie Hanson and her daughter Amy in southern California have facilitated a national prayer circle via email that concentrates on Earthkeeping issues. They are now aware of Christians For The Mountains and have already encouraged their folks to be praying for us. More here on this ministry.
