(November 6) Please PRAY for Maria Gunnoe and her children! She is receiving threats to her life, her family, and her house because she recently won a court victory that has stopped a proposed new mountaintop removal operation by her home in West Virginia. She is being threatened day and night; her children are afraid to go to sleep; she has had to hire guards to protect their house; and, she doesn't have much money to continue.
PRAY that the Lord will put a wall of protection around Maria, her children, and her home. PRAY the Holy Spirit will move mightily, enlightening minds, softening hearts, stopping violence before it begins, and bringing people together. PRAY for ongoing strength and victories for Maria, Larry Gibson, and the others in the mountains of West Virginia who are taking a stand against Mountain Top Removal (MTR). PRAY also, please, that alternate jobs will be created in this region, so people do not feel they have to work for the MTR companies. (January 6) PLEASE PRAY for Christine Hayes, as she works to stop the horrific practice of coal removal in West Virginia, called "Mountain Top Removal." As she wrote in a recent editorial: ..."First the forest is clear cut, then the mountain top is broken up with explosives and dumped into the hollows below using gigantic earth-moving machine that replace miners' jobs... Slurry ponds holding millions of gallons of contaminated waste hovering above small communities and other threats to the citizens in the hollows below are all [results of MTR]." PRAY for Christine, Maria, Allen, Bob, Larry, and ALL those working to stop MTR. Also, please pray for complete and permanent healing for Christine. Thank you!
